With expertise in promoting optimal pregnancy, physiologic birth, postpartum care, and care of the newborn, midwives can help women and families achieve health and wellness through many stages of life.

It is with mixed emotion we say farewell to one of the most amazing midwives on earth! Alison Bowen retired on September 30, 2020. Over the past 12 years, Alison has touched the hearts of so many new parents and colleagues in this community through her infinite support, expertise, and commitment to normal birth. Thank-you, Alison, for everything you have done for us at Midwives of Lindsay and the Lakes. We wish you all the very best in your retirement (you deserve it!) and we will miss you tremendously!

We would also like to extend best wishes to Julia Merkler, who found a midwifery position closer to her extended family in Bowmanville ON with New Life Midwives. Julia added so much to our midwifery services with her kindness and dedication. Thank-you Julia!

We are presently accepting clients’ interest in midwifery care, some of whom will be placed on a wait list until which time we are back to full capacity with our human resources. Our goal to accommodate every potential client who wishes to access midwifery care here in the City of Kawartha Lakes. We are actively recruiting midwives to join our practice and settle in this wonderful community! If you are interested in midwifery care please fill out an intake form on our website and someone from our practice will reach out to you in the near future. Thank-you for your patience during this time of change and growth.

Continuity of Care

A small group of known midwives will provide care throughout your pregnancy, labour, birth and the first six weeks following birth. Continuity of care ensures that a midwife you know will be at your labour and birth. Clients can contact a midwife 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with urgent concerns.

Choice of Birthplace

Choosing where to give birth is one of the decisions that your midwife will support you to make. Midwifery clients may decide to give birth safely at home, or in hospital. Midwives are the only health-care professionals who are specifically trained to attend out-of-hospital births. Midwives also attend births in hospitals. They are able to admit and discharge clients and access hospital resources needed by clients, including a consultation from a physician if there is a concern or complication.

Informed Decisions

Midwives recognize clients as the primary decision makers and provide informed choice in all aspects of care by, for example, providing information so that clients are informed when making decisions about preferences for their labour and birth, as well as any tests or interventions that are available.
